Here’s the place where you can get answers to some of the questions people ask me… frequently! Some of these questions are ones I imagine people might ask me. Some I just find funny. Whatever the case, I threw them all together and… voila! Here we are!
1. Who are you?
In case you missed the huge letters plastered across the top of the homepage, my name is Jamie Lee. Hi! It’s nice to meet you!
2. Do you prefer “Jamie” or “Jamie Lee”?
Either one is fine.
3. What do you do?
To name a few: I write, act, sing, dance, DJ, direct, edit, and more. Not necessarily in that order. Sometimes all at once. I’ve also taken karate for many years.
4. That’s a lot of stuff. Which one do you like best? Which one are you good at?
… Huh. I guess it is a lot of stuff. … Awesome!
Why do I have to pick one? There are plenty of people who both perform and work behind the scenes in any medium, and plenty others who have done so in the past. (Seriously: why are people always asking me this?)
5. I love Halloween, Scream Queens, etc.! Can I get an autograph from you?!
Hey, that’s great! I love Halloween and Scream Queens, too! But… I’m not Jamie Lee Curtis. Sorry.
So… no, I cannot give you a Jamie Lee Curtis autograph. Sorry.
6. I love that one brand of yogurt! Can I get free yogurt from you?!
Hey, that’s great! But… I’m not Jamie Lee Curtis. Sorry.
If you and I ever meet in person, and I happen to have yogurt (of any brand) with me, and you ask me nicely––– I’ll probably give you some.
7. Your name sounds like “Jamie Lee Curtis”! Has anyone ever told you that?! Were you named after her?! Are you a fan of hers?! Are you related to her?! Have you ever met her?!
Okay, I’ll address these in order…
Yes, it does: I know. Yes: pretty much everyone I’ve ever met. Technically, no. I haven’t seen or read all of her work, but what I have seen and read, I’ve enjoyed. Not that I know of. No, unfortunately, I haven’t had the pleasure; however, I imagine that if and when our paths do cross, introducing myself will be hilarious.
8. Are you going to update this FAQ?
“What’s your favorite ______?”
1. What’s your favorite color?
2. What’s your favorite movie? Or, at least, your favorite genre?
I love a lot of very different movies in a lot of very different genres. Comedy, horror, musical, fantasy: I love it all! The only thing all of my favorite movies have in common is that, in my opinion, they all tell compelling stories in compelling ways.
If you really want to know about my (many) favorite movies, check out my blog or my Twitter. I’ll probably write about them… a lot.
3. What’s your favorite TV show? Or, at least, your favorite genre?
Please see #2.
That being said, everyone should watch Svengoolie and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Ironically, the people who are most skeptical of a show with the title Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will be the ones who love it the most when they watch it.
4. What’s your favorite song? Or, at least, your favorite music genre?
Please see #2.
5. Who’s your favorite stand-up comedian?
I really like quite a few stand-up comedians based on what I’ve seen of their material. Robin Williams and Jim Carrey do hold a special place in my heart.
6. Who’s your favorite actor?
Please see #2.
7. Who’s your favorite director?
Anyone who’s directed one of my favorite movies or TV shows. (For more information on the former, please see #2. For more information on the latter, please see #3.)
Oh, and Tim Burton. I always make it a point to go see films he’s involved in.
8. Who’s your favorite musician and/or musical group?
Anyone who’s performed one of my favorite songs or one of my favorite versions of one of my favorite songs. (For more information, please see #4.)
But, here are a few specific artists…
I’m a huge fan of and have a ton of respect for Rachel Bloom and her work. Being a successful writer and performer can be twice as tough as doing just one or the other.
I love Riders in the Sky! They’re very talented musicians and really funny and clever performers, and seeing them live is always a rootin’ tootin’ good time!
9. Who’s your favorite Universal Monster?
The Creature from the Black Lagoon!
I have others I love watching, but Gill-man’s my top one. He’s such a unique Universal Monster. He wasn’t “created” by a supernatural force or a science experiment gone wrong: he just exists. He’s of two worlds, and because of that, he’s in a world all his own.
Dracula’s fun to watch because he’s the smartest Universal Monster. Wolf Man has a compelling and uniquely tragic story among the Universal Monsters. Think about it: he was just trying to save a friend’s life! The Frankenstein monster is fascinating because he’s basically a little kid… but with a bad temper and strength to back it up.
