Svengoolie’s “Zombie No. 5” Is WNUR’s “Track of the Day”!

Hi, everyone!

I have very exciting news! 89.3 WNUR FM (WNUR.org) has recently restarted our “Track of the Day” series. DJs, as well as producers and other members of WNUR’s Executive Board, submit music tracks that they believe deserve some time in the spotlight, along with a description for each track. As the name implies, a different music track is featured each weekday on the station’s website, WNUR.org.

Today, Svengoolie’s (Svengoolie.com) parody song, “Zombie No. 5” (to the tune of “Mambo No. 5”) was chosen to be the “Track of the Day”––– and just in time for Halloween!

Here’s the link to the post: Svengoolie – “Zombie No. 5”. (The “bonus fun fact” at the end was added by Gillian Levy, another member of WNUR’s Executive Board. Thanks, Gillian!)

I’d like to give a special shout-out and huge “Thank you!” to Dave Fuentes, of the horror-themed blog, Terror from Beyond the Daves (TerrorDaves.com), who uploaded the music video featured in the post, which allowed WNUR to post the track! Thank you, Dave!

If you’d like a refresher on who Svengoolie is and why you should need to watch his show on Saturday night, you can get it right here!

Spend Saturday Night with “Svengoolie”!

Hi, everyone!

I’ve been writing quite a bit about my radio show, Jammin’ with Jamie, lately, so I think it’s high time I actually, well, wrote about something else!

It’s officially Halloween season, so I’ll write about something––– or rather, someone––– often associated with Halloween. Despite this association, however, he’s around all year long, and if you ever need something to lift your spirits (pun intended) at the end of the week on a Saturday night, he’s there to help.

If you’ve had the best week of your life, he’ll make it even better. If you’ve had the worst week of your life, he’ll help you end the week on a high note. I can say both of these statements with certainty because I have experienced both. No matter what your mood may be, he’ll brighten it. You’ll find yourself smiling, laughing, and thoroughly enjoying yourself.

His name is Svengoolie. And if you haven’t seen his show, you should. Scratch that: you need to. “Who’s Svengoolie?” you ask?

This is Svengoolie! (And me. At White Castle.)

Tell me more about Sven!

“Jammin’ with Jamie” Theme: “Monstrous Melodies/Haunting Halloween Harmonies (Halloween 2013: Part 3)”!

Hi, everyone!

First of all, I know I’ve been writing quite a bit about Jammin’ with Jamie. This will change soon: I promise! (Hint: come back this Saturday at 9:00 am.)

Second, I’ve recently found out that “Sportsathon” will be taking over 89.3 WNUR FM for twenty-four hours next Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately, this means our jam session will be preempted next week. So, after this week, our next jam session will take place on November 2: same time, same station!

This also means that this will be our last explicitly Halloween-themed jam session––– well, for a while, anyway. (There’s a very high likelihood that another Halloween-themed jam session will pop up again before we go on summer hiatus. The individual songs, on the other hand, may come around again at any time.)

So, in this week’s jam session, we’re going to have two intertwined (and related) themes, as we jam to…

What?! What are we jammin’ to, Jamie Lee?!

“Jammin’ with Jamie” Theme: “Magical Melodies and Sci-Fi Songs (Halloween 2013: Part 2)”!

Hi, everyone!

I’ve realized that I really should start putting pictures before the break, so here’s a picture from the Volo Auto Museum (VoloCars.com) on Saturday, October 5.

Yes, I met Svengoolie again! (And I dressed up for the occasion, too!)

Yes, I met Svengoolie again! (And I dressed up for the occasion, too!)

Now that that picture put Halloween on your mind (I hope)…

Last week’s jam session got us into the Halloween spirit (pun intended) by reminding us of the many treats from both the big and small screen that we’re more likely to pull out and enjoy this time of year. So, where do we go next?

Well, as I promised last week, we’re still jammin’ to Halloween music, and with a brand new “sub-theme”!

Films, television shows, and other works in the horror genre can and do frequently cross over with other genres. When this happens, two common genres in such a crossover are fantasy and science fiction. (Yes, I know that there are others, but I had to give our jam session some focus!)

In this week’s jam session, these worlds will collide! Witches will cast a spell and aliens will invade the studio to bring us…

I can’t stand the suspense! What’s the theme, Jamie Lee?!

“Jammin’ with Jamie” Theme: “Spooky Songs of the Screen (Halloween 2013: Part 1)”!

Hi, everyone!

Before I dive into this post, I’m proud to announce that this will be my very first post that includes a picture!

Remember how I wrote last week that some Jammers may think it was too early to break out the Halloween music?

Well, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but times have changed. Specifically, from September to October.

It’s time.

But, despite this, I also realize that some Jammers may need a little help getting into the spirit (pun intended). Well, I’m here to help!

One tradition we have in my family, which I have continued to uphold on my own, is watching “Halloween” movies and television specials throughout October. (I put “Halloween” in quotes because many of them are not explicitly Halloween-related, but are horror or horror comedy films that remind us of Halloween anyway.)

In light of this, in this week’s jam session, we’ll opening up the crypt to unleash…

Has anyone NOT guessed this week’s theme by now?

“Jammin’ with Jamie” Theme: “Back to School, Back to Jammin’!”

Hi, everyone!

While I don’t think it’s too early to start the Halloween music (It’s never too early for Halloween music!), I know not all of my fellow Jammers will agree with me.  Sorry, fans of haunting Halloween harmonies: I’m going to have to string you along just a little longer.  Rest assured, though: it will definitely be worth the wait!

At any rate, this week, for our very first jam session (since June, anyway), I’ve decided to instead focus on another scary prospect that has students everywhere cowering behind their summer beach towels: school!  It’s September, which means it’s “back to school”; on the bright side, though, it also means that Jammin’ with Jamie is back on the radio airwaves again!

So, this week, we’re–––

Well?! What’s this week’s theme, Jamie?!

“Jammin’ with Jamie” Is Back on the Air!

Hi, everyone!

My weekly radio show, Jammin’ with Jamie, is back!  Tune in to 89.3 WNUR FM over the air in the Chicagoland area, or from anywhere in the world at WNUR.org, every Saturday morning from 6:00 to 7:00 am and “jam” with us!

What are we “jammin’” to?  Many of the songs we “jam” to are from movies and TV shows––– including TV show theme songs––– with a sprinkling of songs from stage shows.  However, many of the songs are not from the big or small screen or the stage, and I am always open to any and all requests! (Provided they’re clean enough to get a thumbs up from the FCC.)

Each week’s “jam session” has a different theme, which is almost always related to a current or upcoming season, holiday, or other event.  Income taxes, elections, movie releases, and even Chicago’s crazy weather have all inspired themes for our weekly jam sessions!  Every so often, there will just be too much music to jam to in the single hour we have together, so the theme––– and the fun––– will be “continued” during the following week’s jam session.

One thing’s for sure, though: you never know what we’re going to jam to when you join our jam session, but it will always be a lot of fun!

I also always enjoy interacting with listeners and taking requests!  So, if you have a request, dedication, question, comment, idea for a future theme for the show, or just want to say, “Hi,” please call in (preferably during the show) at (847) 866-WNUR.  You can also chat live with me online at WNUR.org (once again, preferably during the show).  You can even leave a comment anytime on any of my posts here, but if it’s a request, I unfortunately cannot guarantee that I’ll necessarily see it in time to put it into the show that week.

If, for whatever reason, I am unable to play your request during that week’s jam session, I will do absolutely everything in my power to find it so we can jam to it right at the top of the show the next week!  Also, please make sure you give me your name (or your favorite nickname) so I can give you a shout-out on the air!

By the way, your requests do not have to coincide in any way with that week’s theme.  If we’re jammin’ away to winter/holiday songs and you want to jam to “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” then gosh darn it, you contact me and request “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”!

If I know the next week’s theme before I sign off for the week, I’ll announce it at the end of the show and post it here later.  If I figure it out later, I’ll still post it here!

Since October of 2011, “Jammers” have been jammin’ to great tunes almost every week.  I hope you consider becoming a fellow Jammer by jammin’ with us!  Maybe we’ll jam to some of your long-forgotten favorite songs or artists; maybe you’ll discover some new ones.  In any case, you’ll be singing and even dancing along with us in no time!

Thank you for reading, listening, and jammin’,
Jamie Lee

Hi, Everyone! I’m Jamie Lee!

This is my website… and my blog!  I’ll try to keep things interesting, I promise!

What will I be writing about?  Well, pretty much anything goes. (I do promise to keep all of my own writing appropriate, though.)

I will say, though, that I have a lot of catching up to do, so don’t be surprised if you find articles about, for example, Mary Poppins, Svengoolie (Svengoolie.com), Pee-wee Herman (Peewee.com), Robin Williams, Riders in the Sky (RidersintheSky.com), and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (Elvira.com) all right in a row. (And there are plenty more where those came from!)

Also, don’t be surprised if I post a link to something I’ve previously written that has found its way online one way or another, such as one of my guest articles on the horror-themed blog, Terror from Beyond the Daves (TerrorDaves.com).

If I do post a link to anything, whether it’s something I wrote, something that has nothing whatsoever to do with me (other than the fact that I saw it), or something in between, I’ll make sure I write a little something to accompany it.

If I’ve piqued your interest, that’s great!

At the time of this posting, this site is still very much a work in progress.  Pictures and other sections of the site are in the works and coming soon!

With that, it’s full disclosure time.

If you’re reading this, whether you know me personally or not, I’m already incredibly grateful to you.  The fact that you decided to read something I wrote––– no matter what the subject––– is not something I take for granted.  I will do absolutely everything I can to keep our time together interesting, entertaining, and engaging for all involved.

Please feel free to leave comments with your thoughts, questions, etc., or just to say, “Hi!” and let me know you’re here!

… And this is just the beginning!  I hope you come back soon!

Thank you for reading,
Jamie Lee
