Thoughts On: “Frozen”

Hi, everyone!

This is the first of what I hope to make a series of posts in which I write down and share my thoughts on various films. Some will be new releases you can experience in theaters, while others will be films you can check out on DVD. No matter which film I’m writing about, I will always take great care in regard to spoilers: if I feel compelled to write about one or more spoilers, I will mark them very clearly so you can choose to skip them and come back to read them later. (You’re welcome.)

I’m starting this series because I saw a film entitled, Frozen, and felt so strongly about it that I wanted to share it and my thoughts on it with anyone and everyone I could. This is why these posts are not intended to be “reviews” or summaries, as well as why I will neither be going out to see every single new release so I can post about it here, nor writing about every movie I do end up seeing. None of those prospects is why I started this series.

When the credits began rolling on Frozen when I saw it for the very first time, I had an overwhelming feeling (one of many, actually) that I just couldn’t shake, and didn’t want to, anyway: I have to tell everyone I can about this film. That feeling inspired not only this post, but this entire new series of posts, and I want to stay true to it.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s get to our inaugural “Thoughts On” post! The film: Frozen, from Walt Disney Animation Studios, originally released on Wednesday, November 27, 2013: Thanksgiving weekend. (You can check out Frozen‘s very “cool”––– pun intended––– official website here!) To start off, let’s get one thing straight…

Should I see “Frozen”?

“Jammin’ with Jamie” Theme: “Holiday Harmonies (Holidays 2013)”!

Hi, everyone!

I’m sure you saw this coming. With only one last jam sessions remaining before we take a brief hiatus until January, it had to come up eventually.

… What did?

What I’m Thankful for

Hi, everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

This is the time of year to remind ourselves of all that we’re thankful for. While I was doing just that, I figured I might as well write down my thoughts and share them with all of you!

With that, let’s get started!

“Jammin’ with Jamie” Theme: “Tasty Tunes: Part 1 and 2 (Thanksgiving 2013: Part 1 and 2)”!

Hi, everyone!

As I discussed last week, we’re going through the annual transition from Halloween to the rest of the year, and looking ahead to the many holidays celebrated between now and the time we change our calendars.

As I’m sure most of you are aware, the first among the rest of these holidays is coming up next Thursday––– Thanksgiving! Of course, Thanksgiving is all about being thankful, and I’m thankful that I get to have a jam session with all of you every week!

But of course, we all know what else Thanksgiving brings every fourth Thursday of November. So this week, we’re going to jam to…

… To?

“Jammin’ with Jamie”: Rain Check

Hi, everyone!

Due to various circumstances, such as major deadlines suddenly being bumped up, I’ll have to take a rain check on this week’s jam session.

Next week, I promise you we’re going to “Shoot for the Stars”!

Thank you for reading, listening, and jammin’,
Jamie Lee

“Jammin’ with Jamie” Theme: “Shoot for the Stars”!

Hi, everyone!

UPDATE: This will be happening this Saturday, November 16!

After a couple of weeks off due to Sportsathon and other life incidents, respectively, we’re back to our regularly scheduled jam sessions!

As we transition from Halloween to the rest of the year and look ahead to Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Year’s Eve, and the many other holidays celebrated between now and the end of the year, in my experience, an interesting transformation occurs. Namely, many people suddenly become happier and more optimistic about life in general.

But whether you find yourself grinning or grimacing at the thought of the coming months, this week’s jam session is for you! Because this week, we’re going to…

What? What are we going to do, Jamie Lee?!

“I’m Just the Middleman,” Part 1: The Spontaneous Poster Introduction!

Hi, everyone!

In May of 2008, my family and I went out to a mall for dinner. This particular mall always had various ads on posters that rotated up and down in little “stations” throughout the building. We’d look at them, but wouldn’t really pay too much attention to them unless it was advertising a movie that we already knew and were excited about.

But on this particular evening, one of the posters drew my attention––– to the point where I stood in front of the station through countless rotations just so I could take it all in. I had to memorize it so I could remember every detail of it later. I had no idea how long the mall would keep the poster in the rotation, and did not want to risk it disappearing and forgetting about it.

This is what I saw:

This should go without saying, but I’ll say it anyway: this stood out.

“Sands of Zanzibar!” What is THAT?!

Svengoolie’s “Zombie No. 5” Is WNUR’s “Track of the Day”!

Hi, everyone!

I have very exciting news! 89.3 WNUR FM (WNUR.org) has recently restarted our “Track of the Day” series. DJs, as well as producers and other members of WNUR’s Executive Board, submit music tracks that they believe deserve some time in the spotlight, along with a description for each track. As the name implies, a different music track is featured each weekday on the station’s website, WNUR.org.

Today, Svengoolie’s (Svengoolie.com) parody song, “Zombie No. 5” (to the tune of “Mambo No. 5”) was chosen to be the “Track of the Day”––– and just in time for Halloween!

Here’s the link to the post: Svengoolie – “Zombie No. 5”. (The “bonus fun fact” at the end was added by Gillian Levy, another member of WNUR’s Executive Board. Thanks, Gillian!)

I’d like to give a special shout-out and huge “Thank you!” to Dave Fuentes, of the horror-themed blog, Terror from Beyond the Daves (TerrorDaves.com), who uploaded the music video featured in the post, which allowed WNUR to post the track! Thank you, Dave!

If you’d like a refresher on who Svengoolie is and why you should need to watch his show on Saturday night, you can get it right here!

Spend Saturday Night with “Svengoolie”!

Hi, everyone!

I’ve been writing quite a bit about my radio show, Jammin’ with Jamie, lately, so I think it’s high time I actually, well, wrote about something else!

It’s officially Halloween season, so I’ll write about something––– or rather, someone––– often associated with Halloween. Despite this association, however, he’s around all year long, and if you ever need something to lift your spirits (pun intended) at the end of the week on a Saturday night, he’s there to help.

If you’ve had the best week of your life, he’ll make it even better. If you’ve had the worst week of your life, he’ll help you end the week on a high note. I can say both of these statements with certainty because I have experienced both. No matter what your mood may be, he’ll brighten it. You’ll find yourself smiling, laughing, and thoroughly enjoying yourself.

His name is Svengoolie. And if you haven’t seen his show, you should. Scratch that: you need to. “Who’s Svengoolie?” you ask?

This is Svengoolie! (And me. At White Castle.)
